"Hartley"

dob: 09/02/03

Hartley was our first Beagle. He was bred by Maria Hall and we bought him to be our family pet. He was the largest pup in the litter and won our hearts from the first day we saw him. His name came from a white marking in the shape of a heart on his back.

Hartley is your typical Beagle turning a deaf ear when it suits him, but hears the food quick enough!! We have to keep everything well back from the edge of the kitchen worktop or Hartley will have it (it's amazing how long their tongues can get!!) He is very much a mans dog and much prefers a slow quiet life and he loves the fire. We took Hartley to puppy classes for socialisation then progressed to the training. He was great when it was in the hall however that selective deafness comes into play when he is off the lead.

With many Beagles we noticed Hartley starting to get too quiet when he was about 10 months old and taking advice from other Beagle people and books, we decided that he needed a companion, in his case it is very true that Beagles do better in pairs.

Hartley is pictured above with his buddy Scrimmage, our first pet who sadly passed away in 2006.
